I'm not a designer. Never was. But I've got ideas—lots of them. The problem? Every time I try to explain what I want to an AI, it just doesn't get it. I'd type out paragraphs describing my vision, and the AI would give me something completely different.
Then I figured out a workaround that actually works: show, don't tell.
Here's What I Do
Collect Screenshots Like a Magpie
I browse Dribbble, Pinterest, random websites—anywhere with good design. When I see something I like, I screenshot it. Nice colors? Screenshot. Cool layout? Screenshot. Interesting button? You guessed it—screenshot. They're free, so why not?
Mash Them Together
I drag all those screenshots into PictriKit and start combining. Maybe I like this site's navbar, that app's buttons, and another page's card layout. I piece them together into a visual mood board.
Add Notes (This Part's Important)
Just showing pictures isn't enough. I add text annotations to explain what I want:
- "I want colors like this"
- "Navbar should look like this one"
- "Rounded buttons, please"
- "Keep it clean and simple"
Send It to the AI
Copy the image, paste it into the AI chat. And finally—it gets it! The design comes back looking almost exactly like what I had in mind.
Why Does This Method Work?
Because "a picture is worth a thousand words." Instead of spending 10 minutes describing "I want a modern blue gradient button," just screenshot a button you like and annotate "I want this feeling." AI can extract more information from images: colors, shapes, shadows, spacing... things that are hard to describe precisely in words.
The Result
Using this method, I successfully got AI to help me design a website. From a vague initial idea to a clear design draft, the whole process took less than an hour.
If you have design ideas but don't know how to express them, try this method. No professional design software needed, no complex tools to learn. Just open PictriKit and start stitching your ideas together.
